Time To Wake Up
A first-person 3D adventure with a focus on both narrative and platforming.
Concept description
Time To Wake Up is a first-person adventure game that narratively and psychologically holds a mirror
in front of you. It has a focus on platforming elements and its world doesn’t shy away
from making you feel uncomfortable or uneasy at times.
Through the character you control, you will experience first-hand what dreams can be like:
weird, uncontrollable, but also fun. Given the fact that you have other dreams than those
of the character, you still get to experience dreams from another perspective, which allows
you to immerse yourself in an entirely different way.
The game is inspired by other narrative puzzle games like The Stanley Parable (2011) and
Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice (2017). Wake Up aims to be unique in the way it approaches
storytelling in an environment, which in its entirety makes sense while not making sense by
its components.
Design pillars
1) Mystery – you will have to figure out for themselves what kind of situation they have gotten themselves into and try to make sense of it in order to get out.
2) Lack of control – you can freely move around in the game, but you will feel you are not
entirely in control of the situation.
3) Reflection – through the character, you will reflect on your own dreams and lives and
the connection between them.
